WORK AT CAMP

If you are looking for a great way to spend 1 to 3 weeks of your summer… look no further than GLBC! We have a variety of positions available…

DIRECTORS

The directors are in charge of overseeing the entire camp, during the two full weeks at camp. They plan the programs and activities for the campers and lead the staff devotions each morning at camp. They process camper and staff applications before camp and start coming to board meetings around the month of April, before camp begins. If the directors have any concerns about the operation of camp, they bring them to the attention of the camp board.

Speakers

Chapel speakers spend one week at camp (or weekend for youth retreat) and speak to the campers about spiritual issues. There is a total of 11 chapels for week-long camps (one on Sunday night, and two every day from Monday-Friday) and 4 chapels for weekend camps (Friday night, two on Saturday, and Sunday morning). Speakers are also required to provide devotional books to campers for cabin devotions.

COUNSELLORS

Counsellors are an integral part of the ministry to campers. Each cabin has two counsellors who lead a cabin of campers in devotions and sits with them at meals and chapels. Counsellors also lead various skills at camp such as archery and volleyball. Counsellors at Jr. Camp must be at least 18 years old and counsellors at Teen Camp or Youth Retreat must be at least 21 years old.

COOKS

Cooks are responsible for preparing and serving meals at camp. They also prepare a nightly snack to campers and staff.

Nurses

A camp nurse is required to be on the camp grounds at all times. They attend to the minor issues of cuts and scrapes, and are available should a medical emergency arise. Camp nurses at Gospel Light can be an RN, LPN, or a paramedic.

Lifeguard

A lifeguard must be present at the water front when water activities are occurring. They must be a certified lifeguard with all the necessary credentials such as First Aid and CPR to be a lifeguard at camp.

COOKIES

Cookies are what we call kitchen help. They assist the cooks in setting tables and preparing and serving food in the kitchen.

MAINTENANCE

Maintenance staff at camp are responsible for keeping the bathrooms clean as well as the kitchen floors after meals. They also take the garbage out and ensure that no garbage is left opened overnight to attract furry creatures. Maintenance staff also assist in driving to the local grocery store for last minute needed items.

BURSARIES

Bursaries of $300 for post secondary students are available upon request. In order for students to receive this bursary, they must indicate which school and program they will be enrolled in on the online application form. Monies will be paid once the board has received this information.

Criminal Record check & Child Abuse registry

For the safety of everyone at camp, it is necessary that all staff have a criminal record check and child abuse registry check completed within the last six months of applying to camp. If you have in your possession such documents no older than six months, a photocopy of them will suffice. If not, then these checks must be performed.

If you live in the city of Brandon, please visit the local police station in person to pick up a criminal record check application form. They are located at 1340, 10th St., Brandon. If you live outside of Brandon, visit your local RCMP detachment to pick up your criminal record check application form.

To fill out a Child Abuse Registry Check form, visit their website at: www.gov.mb.ca/fs/childfam/child_abuse_registry_form.html. Follow the instructions on the website. Please note that it takes up to six weeks to complete the child abuse registry form.
